Postecoglou Claps Back at Wenger Over Champions League Debate
Ange Postecoglou has dismissed criticisms from Arsene Wenger regarding Tottenham possibly securing their spot for the upcoming season's Champions League and jokingly said the club does "wild things" to people.
The Spurs are currently in Norway for their match. Europa League semi-final second leg with Bodo/Glimt And maintain a two-goal advantage following last Thursday's 3-1 win, which has brought them tantalizingly close to the finale in Bilbao.
If Tottenham secure victory in the tournament, even though they are currently well-placed for it, their lowest league position of 16th in the Premier League , they would secure their spot in the Champions League because of this. Uefa a rule implemented starting from the 2014-15 season.
Nevertheless, former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger—who is now Head of Global Football Development at FIFA This week, beIN Sport reported that Tottenham Hotspur or possible contenders like Manchester United shouldn’t qualify for Europe’s top-tier competitions through the Europa League and called on UEFA to “reevaluate” this rule.
Before Thursday's clash in Bodo, where Tottenham will be short-handed, James Maddison And with Captain Son Heung-min, Postecoglou appeared quite at ease as he commented on the story surrounding the north London team.
I suppose this has been an ongoing discussion for quite some time, probably the past eight days or so," Postecoglou chuckled. "I haven’t come across that idea until now. As I’ve mentioned earlier, mate, Tottenham Hotspur tends to drive fans a bit mad. Absolutely it does.
"You put that club into any sentence or any issue and invariably they all come out and try and diminish as much as they can.
Why didn't this become a problem earlier, but it is one now? What has changed? I can’t grasp the distinction.

Last year, finishing fifth wasn’t enough to secure a spot in the Champions League, but this year it is. What’s the significance of that change?
The competition has specific regulations, and according to these rules, the victor advances to the Champions League, and this isn’t the first time this has happened.
There isn’t an asterisk next to it indicating that you have to do something else too; however, this is about the Spurs, my friend—they absolutely adore it. They really love it.
I have tremendous admiration for Arsene. He’s a legend in the sport, but he can really shake things up, buddy. I’m thrilled about it; let’s see what happens. It will ruffle some feathers, which only excites me more.

Asked if Tottenham had made him crazy during a season where he has battled with an enormous injury list and faced constant speculation over his future, Postecoglou said: "It hasn't made me crazy at all.
"I was talking about other people, I wasn't talking about me. I was asked the question about apparently there is a massive raging debate about the legitimacy of us or Man U potentially being in the Champions League next year.
The regulations must be altered since Spurs are part of this.
Tottenham goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario echoed the sentiments of Postecoglou when quizzed on Wenger's recent comments.
Vicario commented: "Anyone can form opinions on every aspect of life."
I disagree with Wenger, but it's irrelevant. We have to follow these rules and our aim is still the final.
