Jermall Charlo Aims to Dispatch LaManna Before Chasing Caleb Plant Title Fight

Jermall Charlo and Thomas "Cornflake" LaManna, who compete in the super middleweight division, appeared at a press event in Los Angeles ahead of their anticipated clash. They will headline PBC Championship Boxing on Prime Video on Saturday, May 31st, taking place at the Michelob ULTRA Arena within the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas.
At the event held on Wednesday, Charlo went toe-to-toe with experienced opponent LaManna, while fellow headliners Caleb Plant and Armando Reséndiz also had an intense encounter.
The plant will lead the card by defending his Interim WBA super middleweight title against the powerful hitter Reséndiz, while the undefeated two-weight world champion Charlo kicks off his journey toward becoming a three-division titlist when he faces LaManna in the 10-round co-main event.
The event lineup starts at 8 PM Eastern Time / 5 PM Pacific Time / 1 AM British Summer Time. It includes an exciting matchup between prominent middleweights Yoenli Feliciano Hernandez and Kyrone "Shut It Down" Davis, as well as a compelling clash featuring up-and-coming star Isaac "La Bestia" Lucero versus powerful puncher Omar Valenzuela in a super welterweight bout kicking off the live stream. This exclusive show can be viewed only on Prime Video for all U.S.-based and certain international Amazon Prime subscribers.
This is what the press conference attendees shared on Wednesday at The Mayan in Los Angeles:
JERMALL CHARLO
It has truly been quite an odyssey and much awaited moment. Climbing to weight class 168 is my next step to make a bold declaration. My concentration has never wavered, nor has my determination. Getting through this upcoming bout is essential for me; perhaps then I can face Caleb Plant. Major aspirations lie ahead, stay tuned for what’s about to unfold. Remember, only the lions dare to proceed forward.
I simply long for boxing again; missing how it was to rise each day with nothing but my focus set on boxing, now returning to do so at the pinnacle of the sport.
I have no limits with my current weight. I’m boxing against larger opponents and lifting heavier weights now. My squats have improved beyond what they’ve ever been, and I use my body more efficiently than before. This feels like the division where I’ll conclude my career.
You'll witness me stepping out and being more dynamic than I have ever been in my entire life.
I’m going to head off to work now. There are larger battles and more significant challenges ahead of me. I am definitely not underestimating him. I understand he’s preparing for Jermall Charlo. I recognize their approach towards me. 'Breadman' Edwards is right over there, and he can confirm that I always rise to meet each challenge.
This fellow LaManna is attempting to FaceTime me and message me on Instagram and whatnot. Go work out; I’m tied up, mate.
THOMAS LAMANNA
I am thankful for this opportunity. Both professionally and personally, I shouldn’t even be in this position. Defeating Jermall Charlo would completely transform my life. It’s great having him here, and come May 31st, we’re going to clash with victory going to the better fighter.
I've sat in this spot previously and ended up on the losing side against Erislandy Lara. That experience was tough, and I have no desire to relive it. Now, everyone understands our objective, and we'll be giving it everything we've got. I intend to leave nothing behind in the ring. Our aim is to shake things up.
He's a two-weight world champion who has consistently performed at the highest level. I wouldn’t deny him that accomplishment. While we can discuss our strategies, ultimately, those talks won’t mean anything unless we step into the ring. Discussing practice sessions isn’t enough; winning comes from actual fighting.
On May 31, we'll find out what unfolds. My aim is to astonish everyone. That’s precisely why I’m here.
He hasn't been responding since late September. I simply needed clarity about our situation. I wasn’t receiving any responses, so I sought some answers. There’s no intention to engage in mental gymnastics here. We’re practically strangers. However, knowing that we have a match scheduled for May 31 is really all that counts at this point.
